Hawken Blog Post #2
It is Friday and David and I have been hard at work for the first three days of our Hawken Project. I have never done work quite like this. We spend a lot of our time drafting emails and communicating our plans to different people. Over the course of these three days, we have probably sent around 10 long, detailed, and complex people to many people of authority. The work we do is also very different from what I am used to, however it is very important and useful. Mr. Tate calls this work we are doing "adulting”, but David and I just call it "politics." We were notified that Mr. Eippert donated a sum of money for us to work with and to implement into our project. We have spent a lot of this time working to figure out the details for the schematics and working on creating excel files with our complete budget. These past two weeks have been quite stressful, but I don’t think I’ve ever gotten so much work done. David definitely see ourselves as the “do’ers” here at Hawken because we are continuously pushing this project forward at a fast pace. We have found that many people at Hawken dream big but aren’t actually capable of making their plans a reality. David and I are the ones that are actually pushing and getting stuff done for Hawken.
Mr. D has been very helpful over these past couple of days as well. He has definitely helped us figure out the details of how we will install the solar power and put in the aeration system. He keeps everything running smoothly and even offered to pick up some of the kiosk materials from Home Depot this weekend. Definitely looking forward to that.
Overall, we are definitely well underway to planning out the actual details of how we can accomplish the goals outlined in the first blog post.
Yep. This is an adulting project. Which has to do with politics and bureaucracy, both essential skills in the world you're about to enter. I'm proud of your persistence. You are correct that many people see roadblocks and alter their course. You two just plow on through as if you were in an action movie! (Respectfully and properly, of course).
